The car has done only 25K. Does anyone have any suggestion as to what the problem is? PhilCollins16 Sep Put it in neutral, unclip the gearstick cover, insert the drill bit into a little hole, there should only be one hopefully, from under the car remove the black plastic cover directly below the gearstick, there should be 2 cables, unlock the selector cable by pressing the coloured insert, move the selector lever to its center position, engage 3rd or th gear move the gearstick to its right hand or left hand stop postionlock the selector cable.
There is NO need to remove cup holders etc. Hi, Any chance you can email me the pictures. I'm having the same problem with my gears but your post wont let me open the images.

My car had been Ok for sometime, although this moring after it had been sat cold for a couple of days seemed quite stiff changing gears. It needed a little more effort to get it into gear any gear.
I managed to get to work ok but after driving a couple of hundred yards and stopping at a junction, 1st gear just didn't seem to do anything, I could pull away ok in second and after another couple of nudges 1st seemed to start again OK, but after a few more gear changes and a mile or two later, 1st, 3rd and 5th were non existant, no grinding noises unless I pushed the stick very hard I got a very low grind and eventually managed to limp home on just 2nd and 4th gear which were the only gears I could feel the stick slotting into, 3rd and 5th if it tried to engage would either pop right out or just not sem to slot into.
Although there seems to be some bite in the clutch it is a little high before it engages, but does engage and has never shown any signs that it could be slipping so I've never worried about it.
Has anyone had the same problem, is it likely the gear box is on the way out or could it simply be the clutch, the fact that ot's all 3 gears on the top row and the bottom including reverse is fine is making me think it's the gearbox.
Looking at it from above the only issue I can see around the gearbox seams to be the gear shift retainer looks split and the spring has also seperated. It would bite when manually put into all forward gears but not when using the gear stick, then i'd get 2nd and 4th and only the others at a push.
Have you checked your gearbox oil level lack of will cause these symptoms top up until it starts to dribble out of the hole this would be one of my first places of call. Sounds like a good idea, I'll see if my neighbour has the right socket as I don't have anything that fits the plug. Opened the fill plug, although it is facing up hill on an extremely slight slope, nothing at all came out. I might buy a litre and top it up just to see if it makes a difference, if it fixes it then I suspect that the gearbox has a leak as there does look to be some around the seam between the gear box and the engine casing.
Took about 2 hours to do. Spent probably 90 minutes getting the centre console out and putting it all back together. Fitting the cables themselves wasn't too bad.Opposite r9s pro
If your finding some gears engage and some don't then it's probably the same issue. Wasn't just the cables I got off ebay but the leaver also. Thanks for you quick response, I am finding that 1st 3rd and 5th are a problem to find, almost as if the whole 'H' of the gearbox has moved forward and neutral is where 1, 3 and 5 should be.Emla cream boots
If I select reverse and pull it into position hard, the 'H' appears to move back into place and all gears are available as normal. You haven't had the cables off by any chance have you what you describe is like when the linkage has been disturb after a clutch change but on the focus the only thing you could do which could cause a similar problem is to have the cables reversed.
STEADS No I haven't had any work done on it, just started playing up one day, nursed it home in 2nd and 4th and has been like that since.
Can you get a look at the gear selector within the car gear stick to see if anything is worn or come adrift there or where the cables are on the box that one of them hasn't popped out of place like you state it started all of a sudden could be that something has worked loose come off if I remember correctly when I did my sons clutch the spring lock on one of the cables came adrift and caused a similar prob re did it and it was ok and still is.
If I remember right I had to take out the air intake filter housing to be able to reach down to the gearbox and unclip the cables to try and work it manually, but beware, when buying replacements, the TDDI and TDCI gearboxes are different and so the cables are a different length You can post now and register later.

Recommended Posts. The Ford Focus transmission problems hit the vehicles marketed between and All the affected cars belonged to Focus, Fiesta, and EcoSport models equipped with a Powershift automatic transmission.
Legal actions were also taken in the United States and Canada. Also, the Australian Consumer Law ACL protected the owners of these models purchased after 1st Januarywith an extended manufacturer warranty. Ford is bound to repair or replace their car has any transmission issue surfaced after the expiration of the warranty.
The problems specifically occurred in the Powershift transmission of Ford Fiesta from and Ford Focus from The number of vehicles in Australia suffered the problems was around 68, Ford Australia claimed to address the concerns of the majority of the customers that had faced issues with the Powershift transmission of petrol Focus, Fiesta, and EcoSport. The company acknowledged that the customers had a poor experience when the problems first occurred and they failed to anticipate the scale it could escalate.
They revealed that the issues started to escalate in but the cars with diesel engines and manual transmission were not affected. The Ford Motor Company started using the Powershift transmission in As it has a six-speed shifting mechanism, one clutch engages the first, third, and fifth gear while the other acts on the second, fourth, and sixth gear. Without making public announcements, Ford continuously released software and firmware upgrades to solve these issues.
However, these were just temporary fixes that ultimately led to bigger problems. The main issue with these Ford vehicles was the shuddering of the clutch during light acceleration.
Why does this happen? Continuous oil leaking degrades the shift quality over time. The fixes for the leaky seals and sometimes replacing the gearbox did not work in some cases. The problems came back within a short period of time and some customers even complained about dry shudder.
The vibration, which occurs during acceleration when the car shifts to the second from the first gear, was unrelated to the Powershift transmission, according to Ford. It offered a new clutch material to reduce the friction and improve the shift quality. The jerky shifting can also be the result of a cracked chip in the transmission control module TCM.
The Ford Focus transmission problems are dangerous because they are not just related to driving convenience. Think of a situation when you need to speed up into an intersection, how lethal a delay in the gear-shifting can be. Also, a glitch with the downshifting can make a car lunge forward, creating a safety hassle. The company tried to solve the Ford Focus transmission problems by offering repairs and fixes. They requested the customers to bring their affected cars to their near authorized dealership for a diagnosis.
Depending on the assessments, the solutions could be the replacement of TCM, recalibration of the TCM, changing the input shaft seals, or replacing the entire transmission. The reasons were ignoring the problems for too long and poorly handling the complaints of the customers.
The company extended the warranty on the transmission software calibration, clutch, and the input shaft seals of the transmission. Under the Australian Consumer Law, the company is also obliged to respond to and assess all the replacement and refund requests.
The Ford Brazil also extended the warranty to ,km or 10 years. The most recently reported issues are listed below. When shifting down from drive to park, my shift gets stuck in neutral or when I am shifting from park to reverse, I am unable to move the car into another gears.
When I am at a stop light and the light turns green my car seems to stalls to take off. When I drive down the street the car acts like it wants to shut off.
A Ford truck almost hit me because the light was already green and my car stalled and would not go. I had my hazard lights and he swerved into another lane where the traffic was headed toward the truck.
This very dangerous. The transmission has obvious issues. I have to gun it from a stop so it doesn't chug every single time I stop. One time I really feared for my life was when I was on a major thoroughfare and someone slammed their brakes on in front of me. I, in turn, slammed my brakes on to avoid an accident, which happened to be in the middle of an intersection. My car would not go back into gear immediately and take off. I was stalled and helpless. I felt like a sitting duck ready to be ran over.
I fear for anytime I have to slam my brakes on to avoid an accident that I will again be sitting waiting to be hit. I bought my car used. I took it in to a dealership for recall work that I assumed would resolve the problem only to be told that no it didn't cover my issue.
They told me even if I paid to have it fixed, it would inevitably happen again as they see this problem everyday. I do not have the money to get a new car.
In fact, it is now the only car in our household as my husband is disabled. I feel I've been betrayed and left out to dry. I'm thoroughly disappointed in Ford. I do not make a lot of money as a school secretary.Re library python 3.4

Unit also seems to not engage gears as speed picks up stuck in low gears? Help us please, we just purchased this car used from a Ford dealer why would they sell us a car so dangerous? We are senior's living on a fixed income and are a scared to drive the car. Someone is going to get hurt, we need this fixed soon, no way to get to the doctor. In 5th today, tried to change to 4th and it wouldn't go, tried 3rd with same result. Ended up pulling over and starting again from first, which it did. Got home ok but this happened twice more during a 10 mile journey. It also crunches into reverse. Car is a mk1 focus and it had a new clutch last year. Just after some ideas.Bmw 330d f31 zubehor
Pucky Posts: 2, Forum Member. I would guess at a new gearbox if you've had a new clutch already but I'm sure someone who knows more will be along soon. Keefy-boy Posts: 11, Forum Member. It could still be the clutch, get it investigated. Is it still stiff to move between gears without the engine running and foot off the clutch pedal?
If not then it may just need the clutch adjusting. Has this suddenly happened or something that has progressively got worse over time?
Galaxy Posts: 6, Forum Member. You can't adjust the clutch on a Ford Focus! No adjustment is required nor provided for. The newly fitted clutch could still be giving problems. Was a complete clutch fitted, do you know? There could possibly be air in the clutch hydraulic system which would mean the clutch isn't being actuated sufficiently.
There could be a problem with the adjustment of the cables, which connect the gear lever mechanism to the gearbox. Finally, there could be a problem with the gearbox itself. I think you will need to take the car in somewhere to get the problem investigated, unless you are a skilled mechanic yourself. Is the clutch you had fitted still under warranty? If so, the place that fitted it might be a good place to start.Deals Amazon deals Bargain threads Classified adverts.
Upon lifting off the clutch and re-pressing it, it let me change gear. Can anyone tell me if it is something obvious? There are no service lights or anything out of the ordinary on the dash to be worried about either. Any help is appreciated. The mechanism under the gaiter might need regreased, does it only happen when cold?
I talk from experience ive had on a couple of my cars, it happend to me a couple of times in 5th gear and the synchro was gone. I never got it changed because as long as you double clutch when you shift into gear you dont get the grind, this in 5th was easy so it never really effected me and is now my 2nd nature.
If it is synchro you should find that it happens much more at higher rpm than at lower- this is why when you released the clutch then put it back in kind of double clutching but not quite would have helped, is during this time your revs would have dropped. None the less I would do a then b before considering this as the main issue. Last edited: Feb 16, Kebabhead Novice Member. Kebabhead said:.I have a Ford Focus and I have been trying to get it repaired I had the shift solenoid replaced and sensors replaced in the transmission and it did not fix the problem.
The diagnostics showed that all sensors were firing and it was suggested to me to have the transmission rebuilt. I was out of a thousand dollars having the solenoid and sensors replaced and was exhausted with the whole situation. My transmission should have never been not working at 80, miles. Diagnostic says my shift solenoid D is stuck this should have been repaired when the solenoid was replaced.
Something is wrong I cant seem to get the problem diagnosed properly and fixed. Ford says since it is out of warranty they cannot do anything to help me get the car fixed. Now the car wont reverse. I get stuck in awkward positions like in parking areas and often have to get some big strong men to push my car back so I can get out of the parking space. Ford should pay and fix this mess. It is an obvious problem. OH NO. Not my ladybug. I have had her a year and noticed that she has always had a little bit of an issue shifting from mph.
At the same time, it was intermittent, her tranny fluid was fine, no cel's, no leakage. I even had her checked out at the dealership I bought her from last year and a reputable tranny shop earlier this year or late last year- fine.
Yea, until now. Past few months she has been more iffy, getting stuck a bit more trying to shift. Nothing else is wrong with my baby, but damn- this?! I knew it was a transmission issue, was thinking honestly it would just be a solenoid. Oh, no. Dealership says car has slippage for sure, and that I will eventually need a new transmission. Warranty company may or may not cover it, I am awaiting that result. Dealership says they want to put a new one in her or a good used one.
I have two years of car payments left, already tried to get into another car and can't.Futurama season 3 episode 3
I am not a happy camper right now. Be weary of the 05's. As far as their transmissions go at any rate. I've seen a lot of reports regarding the Focus and its issues with the transmission. Mine is no exception, my car will not move in any gear!
I bought a Ford focus for my son, who is a college student in with 43, miles on it. It would slip really badly in third gear.
